# format-missing

The request names **no format**.

- **Status:** `400 Bad Request`
- **Routes:** `POST /api/v1/generate-events`, `QUERY /api/v1/read-data-set`
- **Description:** `format is missing: expected 'cloudevents' or 'eventsourcingdb'`
- **Details:** Empty.

## Why It Happens

The body has no field `format`, or its value is `null`.

## How to Fix It

Add the field `format`, with `cloudevents` for plain CloudEvents, or `eventsourcingdb` for a backup for EventSourcingDB (see **[Formats](/docs/synthevents/formats)**):
